Top Tips for your Kitchen with Emily Bond

Our friend and fabric designer, Emily Bond, shares some top tips for styling your kitchen.

Our friend and fabric designer, Emily Bond, shares some top tips for styling your kitchen. They are just the thing to take on board if you're looking to give your kitchen a fresh look. Emily's fabrics would just look fabulous in a kitchen, and you should definitely have a look at her tableware range as well. We're big fans of her beetroot design!

Emily's 3 Top Tips for Styling your Kitchen...

1) COLOURS: When choosing a colour scheme for your kitchen I'd definitely recommend you choose a neutral or grey as the base tone for the wall colour. The walls act as a neutral backdrop to all the other colours that naturally appear in your kitchen, like cookery books, kettles, toasters and so on. You can also add more colour on units and cupboard doors, as well as tables and chairs, but keeping those walls neutral will look clean and fresh.

2) FABRICS: I like to give a kitchen character by including patterned curtains or blinds (reserving more classic ticking stripes and so on for other rooms in the house). It's really important to choose a fabric that you genuinely love and will be happy to live with, but you can definitely afford to pick something that is a bit quirky when it comes to kitchen fabrics. (You could have good fun using my artichoke, beetroot or Saddleback pig designs in a kitchen!)

3) FURNITURE: The kitchen is the heart of most homes, and the kitchen table and chairs are at the core of this. You'll spend hours gathered around the kitchen table with friends and family over the years. My preference is always for the classic farmhouse style (which is why I was so keen to write this piece for The Farmhouse Table Company!) I just think that it is a truly timeless style that you will never tire of, and let's face it, you don't want to be updating your table every year to fit with new trends!
